Visual & Weld Inspection

accent lineWhat is Visual & Weld Inspection?

Find visible problems before they become costly failures

Visual Testing (VT) is one of the most important and widely used non-destructive examination methods. It involves the direct or aided observation of a component, weld or structure to identify visible discontinuities, dimensional concerns, surface conditions and workmanship issues.

During weld inspection, a qualified inspector evaluates the weld profile, joint preparation, surface appearance, alignment, size and surrounding base material. Magnifiers, gauges, mirrors, borescopes, lighting equipment and dimensional tools may be used where required.

Visual inspection is commonly performed before, during and after welding to help confirm that fabrication and workmanship meet the applicable drawing, procedure, code or client requirement.

Share the component type, material, dimensions, inspection location, drawings and applicable standard so we can recommend the correct UT approach.
What is visual weld inspection?
Visual weld inspection is the examination of a weld and surrounding material for visible discontinuities, workmanship concerns, dimensions and surface condition. It may be performed before, during and after welding.
Visual inspection is primarily limited to visible surface conditions. Internal discontinuities normally require another NDT method such as ultrasonic or radiographic testing.
Yes. CMH Metlabs can provide both laboratory and on-site visual and weld inspection, depending on access, project requirements and component size.

Please provide the material, component type, thickness, quantity, inspection area, location, drawings, applicable code and required turnaround time.

Yes. Inspection reports can include representative photographs, marked locations, dimensional results and observations where required by the scope.
